Reg Grundy was a media mogul australian media mogul, known for his contributions to the world of television. One of the most famous programs he launched and that 50 years later is still being broadcasted in many countries around the world is ‘La roulette de la suerte’, hosted in Spain by Jorge Fernández and aired on Antena3 at midday.
Grundy’s taste for luxury was what led him to have his dream boat built. In 1999, when the Dutch shipyard Amels delivered it to him, he named it ‘…’Boadicea‘, which is currently sailing off the north coast of Ibiza.
This is a superyacht valued at about 50 million euros with nine staterooms spread over her 77 meters in length. The interior is decorated with art deco inspiration including Italian leather details and wild silk upholstery. Her annual maintenance costs are close to five million euros.
Many owners
In 2009 Reg Grundy sold the yacht to the French billionaire Bernard Tapie (he owned Adidas for a time and the Olympique de Marseille soccer team), who renamed it ‘Reborn’. Seven years later, in 2016, the yacht was sold again and regained its original name, ‘Boadicea’. Its current owner is Gabriele Volpian influential Nigerian-born Italian businessman who has amassed his fortune in the oil, gas and banking businesses.
Originally, this yacht was built for long-distance international cruising, so special importance is given to the spacious owner’s suite and crew accommodations. It even had a darkroom on board for Grundy’s photography hobby.
But the ‘Boadicea’ was soon transformed into a charter yachtwith a wide range of changes made by the new owners. Features were added for charter in a complex build, such as an elevator connecting the four accommodation decks, an outdoor spa/water sports center (which involved extending the hull several meters), and a larger pool on the deck.
