The Consell de Formentera has frozen the works by Pachá in the Tipic nightclub in es Pujols for failing to have a license. This has been confirmed by the insular body, which in addition has reported the initiation of a disciplinary proceeding.
The establishment, which has been closed since 2019, has an open file of restoration of urban legality, after last February the Policía Local reported that “works were being carried out not supported by an authorised license”. The Consell then issued a ruling at the beginning of March to stop the works.
At the end of April the Policía Local confirmed that the works had not been stopped and issued a new warrent to seal the premisis, which will be followed by the corresponding disciplinary proceedings.
The sale of Tipic nightclub
The Pacha Group, which belongs to the private equity investment firm Trilantic Europe, bought the nightclub Tipic on Formentera in 2021. This establishment, located at the entrance of the town of es Pujols, started as a nightclub at the end of the sixties until 1971, when it obtained the activity license, first as an event venue and later as a nighclub.
According to different sources close to the purchase-sale operation, the premises would have been sold to the Pacha Group for 1.4 million euros during the last month of April 2021.
The buyers then declined to answer the questions of this newspaper aimed at learning more details of the operation as well as the project they want to develop in this nightlife venue (on Formentera there are only two with a license), with a capacity for 500 people.
This is the second establishment on Formentera in which the Pacha Group has invested in the last three years. The first is the former restaurant and apartments Es Arenals, in Migjorn, now converted into a luxury establishment, ‘Casa Pacha’, after an extensive renovation of the interior spaces.
The old Tipic nightclub is part of Formentera’s nightlife history, as it opened when there were barely 3,500 inhabitants back in 1971.
But the history of nighclubs in Formentera dates back to 1969 when the now deceased Catalan businessman José Fraga settled on the island and obtained the first nighclub license in the Balearic Islands for the Magoo, now Pineta, located in Plaza Europa in es Pujols. Even the original Ibiza Pacha nightclub, was obtained in 1973 by Ricardo Urgell, although it had been open for some years.
Tipic’s History
A few years later Bartomeu Ferrer Marí, former socialist mayor of Formentera, opened Tipic in a farmhouse at the entrance to the town of es Pujols, which, over the years, was reformed and adapted to the circumstances of the market until his death in 2005. His heirs sold the premises to a company of three partners based on the island who have been operating the business until 2019, introducing the model of the Ibizan nightclubs on a smaller scale but with great success with the public while it has been allowed to be open. The previous owners of the establishment reached an agreement this year with the Pacha Group to formalize the sale, which has already been confirmed.
