The DJ Awards returned to Ibiza last night after four years without being held. The so-called “Oscars of dance music” took place at Club Chinois. Among the award winners were such well-known artists as Black Coffee, Armin Van Buuren, Sam Divine and Rรณisรญn Murphy.
In the main category of the DJ Awards, the award to the Best International DJ, Fisher was the winner. The Australian DJ rose to fame with his Grammy Award-winning single “Losing It” in 2018 and this was his first award at the DJ Awards. The artist took the stage where he talked about how he started DJing. “I remember seeing Luciano (another award recipient) and thinking, ‘That guy controls the crowd like no other and I want to do that,'” Fisher said.
It was the final prize of an evening in which Luciano won the Ibiza Icon awardannounced last month as one of seven industry awards recognizing the Chilean-Swiss DJ’s “profound impact on the Ibiza scene”.
For his part, Sven Vรคth took home his fourth DJ Awards prize at the techno category. The artist has been bringing his beats to clubs around the world for almost 40 years. In his speech he wanted to pay tribute to the “people of the island who love real dance and good vibes without phones in their hands”.
Another of the award winners was Rampa, co-founder of Keinemusik, who received the What’s Hot Global Award for the rise of his label in recent years. In addition, he also picked up the ibiza Track Of The Summer award on behalf of his partner Adam Port for his song with Stryv, ‘Move Feat. Malachiii’, referenced Kanye West’s iconic Grammy moment in his acceptance speech: “Everyone wants to know what would happen if Keinemusik didn’t win this award…. I guess we’ll never know.”
Sam Divine won in the House category and wanted to thank her signing as Defected’s first female DJ to DJ Simon Dunmore. “Leaving the door open for all aspiring female DJs is very important.” Irish singer, songwriter and producer Rรณisรญn Murphy won the award for best live performance and Miss Monique won the award for best new artist.
The lifetime achievement award went to Javier Anadonknown for his legendary Cafรฉ Mambo, which has been in Ibiza since the 70s.
One of the most emotional moments occurred when Michael Bibi picked up the Play It Back award for his One Life campaign, an initiative that has raised 148,283 euros for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, following the DJ’s recent battle with lymphoma.
