A group of friends who were hiking through the Botafoc lighthouse area in Ibiza, has rescued a turtle that had fallen into a marine debris trap. “We went on an excursion and climbed up to the lighthouse. From there, looking at the cove full of garbage, we noticed that there was a turtle trapped.“Iván Vianello tells Diario de Ibiza. He and his friends did not hesitate to walk down to this cove, at the foot of the cliffs of s’Illa Grossa in order to rescue the tortoise.

He had a blue string entangled between his head and fin“he explains. They grabbed the animal, which was surrounded by plastic, pulled it out of the water and with the help of a lighter burned the rope. “The turtle was very calm. It knew it was in good hands,” he assures.

After releasing it, they returned it to the sea. The friends recorded the whole sequence on video and also all the garbage that is accumulated in this area of Ibiza. “We want to draw the attention of the Ibiza Town Hall to do something,” they point out.

The story ended with a happy ending, as the turtle swam away, but it wouldn’t have if it hadn’t been for them.
