Gender-based violence in Formentera: one dead and one seriously injured in two alleged gender-based attacks

A woman has died and another is in serious condition following what appear to be two violent assaults that took place on Sunday morning in the town of Es Pujols, Formentera. In both incidents, which are not connected, the alleged attackers are men who either currently or previously had a romantic relationship with the victims. In the case of the seriously injured woman, the perpetrator has been arrested, while information regarding the judicial situation of the second suspect remained contradictory at the time of publication.

The first incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m., when emergency services arrived at a home in the Mirada 1 building on Miramar Avenue in Es Pujols, where they found the body of L.A., a 45-year-old Italian woman who lived on the island and had a son from a previous relationship. Apparently, her partner, I.S., also Italian and a long-term resident of Formentera, may have been responsible for her death, if confirmed to be the result of violence — something that, as of 10 p.m. on Sunday, had not yet been officially confirmed or denied.
