The postponed event returns to Ibiza Town on 7 November with free entry, live music, local food prizes and a cooking competition that is still open for registrations.
After heavy rain forced organisers to change their plans, Ibiza’s Red Potato Omelette Contest and La Verbenita now have a new date: this Saturday, 7 November. The event will bring food and music to the heart of Ibiza Town, with free entry and activities running until midnight.
The fourth Ibiza Red Potato Omelette Contest will begin at midday in Plaça del Parc, according to practical information released by Ibiza Town Council. La Verbenita will then take over the musical programme at Vara de Rey promenade, running from 3.30 pm until midnight.
Five kilos of Ibiza red potatoes for every team
Families, groups of friends and cooking enthusiasts can still register for the competition through the Participa Eivissa platform.
Each team will receive five kilos of locally grown Ibiza red potatoes to prepare their own recipe. Participants can bring their own cooking equipment and set up their workspaces from 10.30 am.
Àlex Minchiotti, the town councillor responsible for Markets, has encouraged people of all cooking abilities to take part.
“We want to encourage everyone who enjoys cooking, regardless of their experience in the kitchen, to put together a team, prepare their recipe and come along this Saturday to show us who makes the best omelette,” he said.
The winning team will receive a basket of local products worth €300. The second prize is a basket worth €200, while the third-place team will receive one worth €150.
All participating teams will also take home a selection of local products valued at approximately €40.
La Verbenita returns after weather-related postponement
Music will round off the day with a new edition of La Verbenita, the event bringing a festive atmosphere to Ibiza Town.
One of its organisers, Adrián Rodríguez, has invited the public to come along from midday to enjoy the cooking competition before staying on for the music and celebrations.
Meanwhile, Fran Torres, the town councillor responsible for Festivities, said the new date would allow the event to go ahead after its postponement due to bad weather. He highlighted its combination of gastronomy and music in the centre of Ibiza.
The Town Council is promoting both activities as part of its wider efforts to support local produce, encourage shopping and boost restaurants and other businesses during the quieter months of the tourist season.
