In Formentera the nursery and primary school year begins next Friday when more than 850 students and more than 80 teachers who will be in charge of their education over the next nine months at the island’s four schools (three public and one subsidised) will get their first taste of the new school year
The main attraction is that the 350 pupils of Sant Ferran de ses Roques Primary School and its 31 teachers will be making their first visit to the newly constructed building, which includes a nursery with more than 70 places run by the Consell Insular.
The public school’s headteacher, Neus Costa, explained to this newspaper yesterday: “We are facing an immense task, right now we are relocating and if a change of house is complicated, imagine what a change in school is like, we are full of energy and enthusiasm” .
Costa explained that the start of the school year in this centre will be progressive, with the fourth, fifth and sixth primary classes starting on Friday, 10th September, the first, second and third years on Monday, 13th September and Infant pupils joining on Tuesday, 14th September: “This is in accordance with the covid regulations that allow the start of the course to be staggered. With the new school it gives us some space and the children can get to know the new premises”. The headteacher summed up by saying that the whole team of professionals at the school “is putting in a lot of energy, because we have a lot of work to do and everyone has rolled up their sleeves with great enthusiasm,” to start the school year.
