The master herbalist and ethnobotanist will give a talk at Sa Nostra Sala on Thursday 12 November, exploring traditional remedies, local plant uses and the importance of preserving Ibiza and Formentera’s botanical heritage.

Master herbalist and ethnobotanist Marc Moll will present his book, Guia de les plantes silvestres medicinals de les Balears (Guide to the Wild Medicinal Plants of the Balearic Islands), at Sa Nostra Sala in Ibiza on Thursday 12 November at 7pm.

The publication explores the medicinal plants found across the Balearic archipelago and their traditional applications.

The presentation will include a talk entitled Remeis, usos i tradicions de les plantes medicinals d’Eivissa (Remedies, Uses and Traditions of Ibiza’s Medicinal Plants), during which Moll will discuss the properties and popular uses of wild plants found in Ibiza and Formentera, as well as the customs surrounding their collection and preparation.

Particular attention will be given to traditional remedies that have long been part of everyday life on the islands and to the knowledge passed down from one generation to the next.

The talk will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the importance of preserving this natural and cultural heritage, ensuring that traditional practices and knowledge associated with medicinal plants are not lost.

A guide to the Balearic Islands’ botanical heritage

The guide being presented in Ibiza is the result of years of study, research and information gathering on the Balearic Islands’ wild flora.

Written for a general readership, the book documents part of the archipelago’s ethnobotanical heritage, highlighting the historical relationship between local communities and the plant resources found in their surroundings.

The event aims to introduce the public to the medicinal plants of the islands and help promote traditions that remain an important part of their cultural identity, according to the organisers.

The talk and book presentation will take place at Sa Nostra Sala, at 17 Carrer Aragó, in Ibiza town. The event is supported by the Ibiza Island Council (Consell Insular d’Eivissa), Sa Nostra Sala and Ibiza Cultural.
