Ibiza Local Police have issued four new reports of suspected illegal holiday rental activity following an enforcement operation carried out last Sunday by the municipal force’s fourth shift. Officers also proposed two additional penalties for suspected irregular tourist accommodation activities, supported by witness statements, and recommended sanctions against two drivers who tested positive for drugs.

With these latest operations, Ibiza Town Council reports that local officers have inspected at least 159 properties and recorded 25 reports involving suspected illegal holiday rental offences so far this season. Most of the operations have been carried out jointly with the Island Council (Consell Insular).

The four reports issued on Sunday are already included in the municipal total of 25. The two additional proposed penalties, however, are still awaiting processing, the council said.

The operation forms part of the work carried out by the Local Police’s fourth shift, which began operating last June to reinforce regular policing during periods of peak tourist activity and nightlife.

€4.2 Million Fine Over Suspected Illegal Holiday Rentals

The latest enforcement actions follow an announcement by Ibiza Town Mayor Rafael Triguero on 21 October. During a debate on the state of the municipality, he revealed that the council was preparing a €4.2 million fine in connection with an alleged case of illegal tourist accommodation.

The proposed penalty, which was still awaiting approval by the council’s governing board at the time of the announcement, amounts to 75% of the value of the building concerned.

During the same address, the mayor also reviewed the council’s enforcement efforts against illegal holiday rentals. He said that between June and October, the municipality had carried out 99 property inspections, issued 14 reports that were still being processed and sealed seven properties being used for tourist accommodation without authorisation.

More Than 400 Checks Targeting Illegal Passenger Transport

Cracking down on unauthorised passenger transport has also been a major focus of police activity this season. Between 30 April and 16 October, officers carried out 410 transport enforcement checks in the municipality of Ibiza.

These operations uncovered cases involving illegal taxi services, the unauthorised solicitation of customers and other breaches of transport regulations. During one operation conducted over the summer, proposed penalties totalled €27,400.

Alongside inspections targeting illegal holiday rentals and passenger transport, the fourth shift has maintained a preventive police presence in busy areas, including La Marina, the port and ses Figueretes.

Officers have conducted road safety checks, alcohol and drug testing, public-space patrols and inspections to ensure compliance with municipal regulations. The police dog unit has also taken part in some of these operations.

According to Ibiza Town Council, the additional service has increased the Local Police’s operational capacity during the tourist season, strengthening prevention, inspection and enforcement across the municipality.
