Ibiza-based DJ and producer BJones has shared a new reflection after beating cancer, a diagnosis that kept her away from the stage for much of the year. In a video posted to her social media, the artist looks back on how she dealt with the disease and explains why she chose not to let cancer take over her life.
“I decided to find light in the darkness,” BJones says in the video. She acknowledges that making cancer the sole focus of her life would have increased the emotional burden for both herself and her family, who were already going through a difficult period.
Instead, the DJ searched for something that could give her a reason to look beyond the treatment. “I found a way out. I found something that fulfilled me, that filled me with emotions — a goal, a plan,” she explains.
That motivation was closely connected to music and, in particular, to the possibility of returning to one of the most important stages of her career: Tomorrowland. Throughout her treatment, BJones continued working on her musical projects and turned the prospect of performing at the festival again into one of her main sources of motivation.
Music as a lifeline during cancer treatment
Earlier this year, BJones revealed that she had been diagnosed with lymphoma, explaining that the disease had affected her skull and bone marrow. From hospital, she said she was determined to recover and shared a message that became closely associated with her journey: “I’m going to beat this 100%.”
Despite her treatment, the artist continued to work on her music. In February, she released “Side Effects”, followed in March by “Stronger”, two tracks closely connected to the experience she was going through at the time.
BJones described music as her “lifeline” and “best weapon” during her battle with the disease.
She now explains that keeping her mind focused on her creative projects helped her approach the illness differently.
“Until the day they told me I was cancer-free, I wasn’t aware of how serious the cancer I had gone through actually was,” she admits.
The DJ says she deliberately divided her attention between the present and the future. While undergoing treatment, she continued thinking about her next projects, her music and her record label.
“My mind was divided. I wasn’t only focused on the present and what I was going through; I was still thinking about my future, my music and my label,” she recalls.
Tomorrowland became a goal to look ahead
One of the most symbolic moments in BJones’ recovery came on July 19, when she returned to Tomorrowland. The performance had become a personal goal during some of the most difficult months of her illness.
“Today I can say, with enormous happiness, that I have beaten it 100%,” she announced before returning to the festival.
Her return to the stage, however, did not mean the recovery process was completely over. BJones explained that the treatment had left her with side effects and that she would need to use a wheelchair for a period of time.
“It won’t be forever,” she said at the time.
Her latest message adds another important dimension to her recovery: the role that having goals and continuing to look towards the future played throughout her treatment.
“I never let cancer stop my life”
BJones’ latest reflection is not simply about the illness itself, but about how she chose to live alongside cancer during treatment.
The disease was always present, she explains, but she refused to make it the only defining element of her life.
“I never stopped my life because of cancer. I never let cancer stop my life,” she concludes.
With this message, BJones is once again sharing a deeply personal part of her cancer journey with her followers. After publicly revealing her diagnosis earlier this year, the Ibiza-based artist has now been able to move beyond the disease while continuing to focus on her career.
Throughout the most challenging months, music, her creative projects and the goal of returning to the stage gave BJones a way to keep looking ahead and focus on what was waiting for her beyond treatment.
