The long delays affecting Ibiza’s Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV) service — where appointments currently take around four months — could be reduced in the coming months with the introduction of two new mobile units. Three companies have submitted bids in the tender launched by the Consell de Ibiza to install and operate the service, meaning its implementation could move forward once the bids have been assessed.
Unlike the ITV station in Santa Gertrudis and the two mobile units located at the Fairgrounds, both operating on premises owned by the Consell, the future contractor in this case will be required to provide its own premises or plot of land suitable for the activity. In other words, it must have access to a site classified for industrial use.
Conditions
Despite this requirement — at a time when industrial estates on the island are already under pressure and struggling to meet demand — the tender process has proceeded with the three bids submitted. Once the evaluation process to determine the most advantageous offer is completed, the successful bidder will have 30 days to install the units and begin inspections.
The contracted company will be required to carry out a minimum of 23,808 inspections per year, a figure that may be increased to 29,760 should it choose to expand its service capacity. Each inspection will be charged at a fee of €40.64.
The budgets submitted in the public tender launched by the Consell to streamline the ITV service on the island range from €1,008,268 to €1,292,280 per year, under a contract that may be extended for up to three years.
