A walk through zarzuela, cabaret and opera at Teatro Pereyra by the hand of ‘Rossita’

The audience at Teatro Pereyra, in Vila, will travel this Sunday, 7 December, from 7 p.m., back to the 1920s to accompany Rossita in her adventures and misadventures — a young woman from a humble family, raised in a village, who dreams of conquering the world and becoming a singing diva. That, broadly speaking, is the plot of the cabaret-opera created by soprano Mar Vives Ferrer (Ibiza, 1991) and pianist Marc Laliga (Palma, 1998), a musical duo for the past couple of years.

The production, named after its protagonist, began to take shape a year ago thanks to a grant from the City Council of Pollença, in Mallorca. As Vives explains, “the idea was to bring classical music closer through a more popular and intimate format”, using the cabaret theme and the female character performed by the Ibizan lyrical singer.

Rossita premiered in Pollença at the end of last year, and this Sunday’s performance in Vila will be only the second time it is shown publicly. Its creators consider the emblematic Teatro Pereyra “the ideal space” to emulate the café-cabaret atmosphere that this story evokes.
