“Have you heard about the attempted rape ? Be careful.” This is the phrase that has been repeated in recent hours among the Platja d’en Bossa neighbors closest to the promenade. In the early hours of Tuesday morning there was an assault on a woman and since then the fears, which already existed, have increased.
According to the neighbors, the incident occurred around 5.30 am. The 112 received the warning, which reached both the Local Police and the National Police. It is the latter that took over the case as there was a complaint of sexual assault.
Apparently, according to sources from the National Police, the man approached the girl on the promenade of Platja d’en Bossa and coerced her to go to the beach. There he groped her. The victim managed to escape taking advantage of some tourists approaching the area and the aggressor fled.
The incident did not come as a surprise to the neighbors. They feared that something like this would happen someday. The promenade has a high traffic of people during the night and early morning and, they denounce, hardly any police are seen in the area. At that time of day, the promenade is frequented by groups coming from the nightclubs of Platja d’en Bossa, who are partying on the beach, those who sleep there, several homeless people who have made some corners their home, and neighbors returning or going to work or walking their pets.
To the lack of police presence is added, they criticize, the darkness of the promenade, since many of the streetlights, which work with solar panels, have long since been turned off, plunging some areas into absolute darkness.
“We already feared that this would happen someday,” reiterates another neighbor.
