Environmental group Amics de la Terra has filed a complaint with the Balearic Government and Sant Joan Council, alleging that the owner of a mansion in Sant Llorenç ordered the emptying and refilling of three swimming pools during a period of drought alert. The group claims such practices are common among luxury properties, with water sourced either from private wells or tanker deliveries, and highlights that the villa sits within an ANEI zone and an area of high aquifer vulnerability. They argue that this misuse of water undermines supplies already under strain, calling for sanctions, restrictions, and stronger water management policies, while criticising authorities for delaying action and permitting continued urban growth that intensifies pressure on resources.
