Agents of the National Police belonging to the Drug and Organized Crime Unit Group (Udyco) of Ibiza, in collaboration with the Polizia di Stato of Italy, have disarticulated a criminal group of Naples dedicated to the theft of high-end watches, valued at 479,500 euros.
The investigated facts took place last July and the operation resulted in the arrest of two men of Italian nationality as alleged perpetrators of several crimes of belonging to a criminal organization, false documentation and robbery with violence, as reported by the National Police.
The criminal group’s modus operandi was to locate potential victims wearing high-end watches. Once their target was detected, they could act in two ways: by skillfully stealing the watch or forcibly snatching it by tugging on the wrist.
Motorcycles brought from Italy
When they got hold of a watch, they fled the scene on motorcycles of various displacement with fake license plates. These vehicles arrived in Ibiza from Naples inside a van, in order to go unnoticed, and were returned to Italy once the crime had been committed.
The two detainees are charged with the theft of a total of three watches, each valued at between 30,000 and 400,000 euros.
In the police operation two motorcycles, a car, a van and several false license plates were seized. The investigation is still open and new arrests are not ruled out.
