These are the beaches of Ibiza and Formentera that will disappear with climate change

Greenpeace’s report, ‘Destruction at all costs 2025’, forecasts sea level rises of 16–33 cm by 2050 and 40 cm to 1 metre by 2100, potentially halving beach surfaces due to rising water temperatures—up 1.6°C in the past four decades and projected to increase by 1.2–3.6°C further. This would heighten marine heatwaves and permanent flooding risks in Balearic coastal areas, particularly urbanized wetlands and sandy beaches. In Ibiza, seven beaches including es Codolar and Santa Eulària face submersion risks, while Formentera risks losing five beaches. Across the Balearics, 44 beaches are marked as threatened.
