Arrested in Sant Joan for gender violence and knife threats

Agents of the Local Police of Sant Joan in conjunction with the Civil Guard have arrested a man of Turkish origin as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of gender violence and another one of threats with a knife

The action was carried out after receiving a notice of a possible risk situation for the victim and his companions in a home, as reported by the local police of Sant Joan in their social networks this Thursday, where they have shared an image of the moment of arrest in which two local agents take the man, shackled, to the police vehicles.

Victims of male violence and their environment can ask for help in different active resources every day of the week and 24 hours a day: telephone 016, email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es and WhatsApp channel on the number 600 000 016.

In an emergency situation you can call 112 or the emergency numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062) and, if it is not possible to make that call, in case of danger there is also the option of activating the ALERTCOPS application, which sends an alert signal to the Police with geolocation.

The number of gender violence complaints filed in the courts of Ibiza is as follows its increasing trend and totaled 1,245 in 2024, representing a rise of 18% over the previous year, according to statistics published by the General Council of the Judiciary.

Complaints against men who mistreat women who have been their partner or ex-partner have been breaking records for three consecutive years in the Ibizan courts after the deceptive brake that was the pandemic, with a double-digit year-on-year rate of increase: thus, in 2022 they increased by 23%, and in 2023, by 12%. Last year, growth accelerated six points over the previous year’s increase.
