Mikhail Prokhorov acquired in 2013 at Ibiza one of the most luxurious villas in Europe and, surely, the most expensive of the island, sa Ferradura, for about 33 million euros. An island that has now been put up for sale.
Although sa Ferradura is usually referred to as a private island, it is actually a peninsula joined by a small tongue of land to Sant Miquel. In its interior it houses a mansion of almost 1,100 square meters which in high season rents for 300,000 euros a week (the rest of the year at 250,000 euros).
The private islet of Sa Ferradura is controlled by the company Sunshine Ferradura SLwhich in turn is owned by Hydrus Investments S.A.R.L. The company is registered with the Registre de Commerce et des Sociétés (RCS) in Luxembourg and its sole director is Prokhorov.
Sunshine Ferradura SL, owner of the private islet, was incorporated on August 16, 2006. The company has reported assets of 43.6 million euros43.6 million, as recorded in the Commercial Register. On the day of incorporation there was a capital increase of 36.4 million euros subscribed by Amitjugofem AB, based in Stockholm and also controlled by Prokhorov.
Life
Mikhail Dmitrievich Prokhorov was born on May 3, 1965 in Moscow, Russia. His father, Dmitry Prokhorov, was a lawyer who was in charge of international relations for the Soviet Committee for Physical Culture and Sport. His mother, Tamara Prokhorova, was a materials engineer at the Institute of Chemical Machine Building. Prokhorov has an older sister, Irina, who runs her own philanthropic organizations and a publishing house.
Owner, among other things, of Onexim Group (the largest and most important of his companies), Mikhail Prokhorov ran for the Russian elections in 2012, facing Vladimir Putin. He was the third most voted candidate.
He owns two private hospitals in Israel (he holds Israeli citizenship) and supports several sports clubs and organizations, including CSKA Moscow and the Russian Biathlon Union. Prokhorov gained international recognition when he became the first non-American owner of an NBA team after buying a majority stake in the New Jersey Nets in 2010. He changed the team’s name to Brooklyn Nets and moved it to Brooklyn in 2012. However, he sold his remaining stake in the Nets to Joseph Tsai in 2019.
His fortune has continued to grow (currently estimated at nearly $20 billion) and his distancing himself from the Kremlin over the past few years has made him one of Russia’s oligarchs and neither the United States nor the EU nor Britain have sanctioned him, as has happened to other Russian citizens close to Putin after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The billionaire Prokhorov is the largest world producer of nickel palladiumthe absolute king of gold in Russia and, in addition, the owner of the largest investment fund in his country.
His impressive boat in Ibiza
In addition to the imposing sa Ferradura, Mikhail Prokhorov was, for many years, the owner of one of the most impressive yachts that could be seen in the port of Ibiza: the ‘Palladium’, 95 meters long and valued at 200 million dollars.
It seems he didn’t use it much (he once claimed he tended to get seasick when sailing) and ended up selling it to American businessman Dennis Washington, who renamed it ‘AV’, for about $150 million.
