The sea has thrown this Thursday to the coast of Formentera a new corpse the fifth that appears this year in the same circumstances. The Guardia Civil reports that everything points to it being a male (its advanced state of decomposition makes identification difficult) and that it could be a migrant. Although all these details will be confirmed when the autopsy is performed.
The body, located by a person who was walking in the area, was on the sand on the shore of llevant beach in the Natural Park of Ses Salines, in front of the access walkway to the parking lot, and its condition would have been in the sea for weeks.
A patrol of Citizen Security of the Civil Guard has moved to the area to control the perimeter and has waited until 14 hours has been removed the body by staff of Pompas Fúnebres, once it has been authorized by the judicial procession. A call to the 112 emergency service has alerted at 12.20 hours of the presence of the body, that conserves all the clothes.
It is very likely that it is a migrant of the many who disappear during the journey by boat from the Algerian coast to the islands, which for the most part is done with almost no safety measures and in small boats with low-powered engines.
During last January, up to three more bodies were also found on the beaches of Formentera and it was not discarded then that they were from migrants who have died during a crossing. On January 7, the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil confirmed the discovery of two bodies on the beach at es Cavall d’en Borràs. Eight days later, the body of a lifeless man was found in the sa Torreta beachon the islet of s’Espalmador.
Finally, the fourth appeared on Monday, February 3.
