The next cultural week of Formentera will be very marked by the imminent arrival of the carnival. The Consell Insular announces in a press release that the concentration for la rúa will be on March 2 at 11 a.m at the Espai Cultural Sant Ferran, where you will meet the comparsas, floats and costumes.
A few days before, on February 26th, the carnival festival will begin, in charge of the Escola de Música i Dansa de Formentera (School of Music and Dance of Formentera) at 5 p.m. at the Sala de Cultura (Cinema) and admission will be free. Closely related to this event, Brenda Novak will organize a children’s mask workshop for participants between eight and twelve years old the next day at the reading point of the Espai Cultural Sant Ferran at 5 p.m.
The Xuia Fest
The previous weekend will begin the events of the third edition of the Xuia Festorganized by the Associació Reis Mags de Formentera. February 21 will be the day of the Correbars: sa ruta més porca (the most beautiful route). The activity will begin at 20.30 hours in the Plaza de la Constitució accompanied by the charanga ‘Xaranguera’ and bigheaded.
The following day, the Xuieta Fest will start at 6 pm at the Espai Cultural Sant Ferran. The event will offer a chocolate, face painting, workshops, children’s entertainment by Jessica Gonçalves and the disco by PD Padjesa. In addition, there will be a sweet and savory table of the sixth grade students of the Colegio Virgen Milagrosa and a popular torrada of sopar de senalló. The Xuia Fest will close the day from 10 p.m with a ballada popular, Latin social dance by Formentera Baila Conmigo with the dynamization of Jemima Melendo. Finally, the disco by PD Padjesa and PD Burbaia will fill the dance floor with music of yesterday and today.
Music for the Day of the Balearic Islands
Antoni Manonelles and Maria Teresa Ferrer will present the project ‘Cançoner de les Pitiüses’ (Songs of the Pitiüses) on February 21 at 7 pm in the plenary hall of the Centre de Dia. The event has the collaboration of OCB Formentera and the Institut d’Estudis Eivissencs. The traditional culture does not end here and on February 27 the Sala de Cultura (Cinema) will host at 7 pm the presentation of the documentary film by Roger Cassany eivissa, tresor pagès'[Eivissathreepagantreasures about peasant singing.
The event is part of the celebrations of the Day of the Balearic Islands and is organized by Plataforma per la llengua, the Consell de Formentera and Obra Cultural Balear. It is also part of the same framework the free concert by Pitxorines to be held at the Sala de Cultura (Cinema) on March 1 at 20.30. This musical project is made up of nine Mallorcan musicians who recover the popular songs of the island with their own arrangements.
There will also be an event to commemorate the Day of Andalusia on February 28 at 9:00 p.m in the Sala de Cultura (Cinema), which will be the flamenco show ‘Saxoleá’. The Andalusian Cultural Association of Formentera organizes the event.
Hugh Grant’s new movie
The cinema will have its share of protagonism in the cultural program with the screening of the psychological thriller ‘Heretic at the Sala de Cultura (Cinema) on February 21 at 9 pm. The film runs 110 minutes, is recommended for ages 18 and stars Hugh Grant. The feature film will have another screening two days later at 8 p.m. and tickets can be booked at www.entradesformentera.cat.
In addition, theater lovers will be able to attend the performance ‘Lilit i Xekinà’ (Lilit and Xekinà) on February 22nd at 8.30 pm at the Sala de Cultura (Cinema). The performance will be given by the actors of the company Pedro Cañestro with a text by Bernat Joan and directed by Àngels Martínez. Admission will be free.
Sports and courses for adults
In the next few days there will also be sports in Formentera with the Cursa i Caminada from Far to Far. The start of the two routes will be on February 23 at the Far des Cap: the walk will begin at 9 am and the trail race at 11 am. On the other hand, the registration period for the Catalan courses for adults is already open at the Oficina de Atenció Ciutadana and at the Oficina Virtual de Atenció Ciutadana. Registrations will not be accepted after March 1 and will not be accepted after March 1 classes will start on the 5th and 6th of next month.
Finally, the XXII Concurs de Fotografia Beni Trutmann will close its deadline for entries on April 11. The contest includes four categories: black and white photography, color photography, denunciation photography and junior photography. This last class is aimed at participants between 12 and 18 years old.
