A new documentary titled ‘Carlos Cardona, an Ibizan in Hollywood’ by filmmaker José Luis Mir chronicles the life and achievements of Carlos José Cardona Tur, a pioneering Ibizan inventor and special effects artist. Born in Sant Rafel in 1901, Cardona emigrated to the United States at 19 and rose to prominence in Hollywood as a creator of sets, models, and special effects, contributing to films like ‘King Kong’ (1933) and ‘Ben-Hur’ (1925). The film highlights his ingenuity, including patented inventions for cinema and the military. After decades in the U.S., Cardona returned to Ibiza in 1969, where he lived until his death in 1979. The documentary, supported by Sant Antoni’s town council, premieres in January during local festivities.
