The yacht empire. There live (and eat and drink and dance and have fun and…) the celebrities who visit the Pitiusas every summer. The 2024 was not going to be less. There is no self-respecting celebrity who does not sail the seas aboard one of these gleaming and expensive boats with which they arrive, as can be seen in the images, to corners of turquoise waters and with hardly any people where mere mortals can only aspire to reach padlesurfing. Well, not everyone pulls a yacht. One of the most curious pictures that the paparazzi have captured this summer is the actress Úrsula Corberó with her boyfriend, also actor Chino Darín, and some friends sailing the waters of the Pitiusas aboard a traditional llaüt.
“The summer has been normal to weak,” says Sergio Garrido, one of the photographers who spends the summer on the island on the hunt for the famous. “In general, when there is a world crisis or when there are Olympics, World Cup or Eurocup, like this year, it’s noticeable. The season slackens,” he says. However, he recognizes that in spite of that, he has come across characters he didn’t expect to meet during this Ibizan summer.
This is the case, for example, of Kendall Jenner. With her, moreover, something happened to him that in his long career as a tabloid photographer had “never” happened to him: he bought the rights to fifteen photos so that they would not be published. What was seen in those photos is a secret between the model and the paparazzi. And her New York agency, who were the ones who called Garrido. The purchase of those fifteen photos “compensates” for the laziness of this summer, she notes.
Another of those who did not imagine he would see on the island is the actor Zac Efron, who was captured “quietly in the boat” just a few days before the accident he suffered in the pool of the mansion where he was staying. A news that went around the world. Or Salma Hayek. Who seems to have become, almost, one more Ibicencan. She strolled with her family in Dalt Vila, celebrated her birthday in a restaurant in Sant Llorenç, went to Nacho Cano’s show at the Pereyra and shared how happy she was being on vacation and forgetting about her gray hair.
Among his “one hundred photos of summer 2024 in Ibiza” you can find all kinds of celebrities. And, among so much sea, yacht, beach club and beach, some peculiar image. Mar Flores, a regular on the island, leaving the supermarket to do the shopping. Ana Duato pedaling along the roads like a character from ‘Verano azul’. Marc Cucurella trying to get his son to eat something on the beach. Or Carlos Baute with his diving goggles on his head and a yellow bucket in one hand, elements that give him a Pepe Viyuela or Mr. Bean look.
Kisses in the sand
Among the images, some kisses. Like the one given by the journalist Adriana Abenia to her sailor on the shore of the beach. Or that of Nona Sobo, the actress of entrevías, and the footballer Enric Franquesa, between the rocks of one of those corners that are best reached by yacht. There were no kisses, at least not captured by photographers, between actor Álex González and what seems to be confirmed to be his new girlfriend, Camila Rojido, with whom affectionate gestures can be seen on the rocks of the beach of es Jondal.
“Each photo has a story behind it,” says the paparazzi, who assures that every year it is much more complicated not so much to capture the celebrities who visit the island as to take “pretty pictures”. “I like pretty pictures, but that’s almost impossible,” says the photographer, who also points to social networks as another aspect that complicates his work: “Now you see that the celebrities post their own pictures on their profiles.
Another aspect that makes the summer of 2024 curious is the boats. Although most of the celebrities Garrido has caught them aboard yachts, he says there have been “fewer boats” this year. Maybe they’ve gone sailing for a day or two, but it hasn’t been that vacation of going out to sea on luxury boats every day, as in the old days. “It’s been weird. For days no one would go out and then suddenly everyone would go out at the same time. That regularity that was there years ago has been lost,” he says.
The national character has also been on sale this summer that is already ending. “Out of a hundred that come to Ibiza, ten are worth ten,” says Garrido, who says that if there is no news behind the photos, he doesn’t pick up the camera. That’s an understatement. This year he captured Alejandra Rubió, shortly after her pregnancy was confirmed, spending a few days on the island with her boyfriend, Carlo Constanzia, son of Mar Flores. Or Albert Rivera with his girlfriend, Carla Cotterli, in full rumors of crisis. Also Froilán with his girlfriend, who seems to be his girlfriend, living to the fullest the night party on the island. And Aitana wiping away her tears after her breakup with Sebastián Yatra.
