Carlos Alcaraz has stated that enjoying the nightclubs in Ibiza gave him the necessary rest before attempting to retain his Wimbledon title. The tennis player completed the third Grand Slam stage of his career by winning the French Open last Sunday 9. And last week it was confirmed that he will partner his “idol” Rafa Nadal in doubles at the Paris Olympics.
Alcaraz, 21 years old, has assured that his rest in Ibiza has been essential before he starts his grass campaign at the Cinch Championships at Queen’s Club this week, reports the Express.
The importance of Ibiza
The Wimbledon champion, who arrived in London on Saturday, explained, “I had a few days off and went to Ibiza with a group of friends. I went to discos and even sang karaoke. I had fun, enjoyed my time, enjoyed my days offit was a great time to celebrate Roland Garros and I just had fun. As a player, i need this kind of thing. Every player is different, but to reach my best tennis I have to separate the professional part from the personal part. Sometimes I have my days off just to enjoy, just to forget a little bit that I am a professional tennis player. It was a really useful moment for me.
Alcaraz won his first title on grass at Queen’s Club last year before taking the Wimbledon title. “Right now my focus is on grass,” he said.
But the Murcia native also expresses his illusion of teaming up with Nadal in Paris. “I feel very very happy to play doubles at the Olympics with my idol,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity as a player. I didn’t expect to play an Olympic Games with Rafa, it’s a unique moment for me, I’m very very happy about it. In my career I have not been able to play as many doubles as I wanted to. I think the last one was in 2022. But I love playing doubles. It’s the kind of game I love: different shots, volleys, playing with a partner, who is usually your friend. For me it’s great, I’m really looking forward to playing doubles even more playing with Rafa,” he added.
