Rainstorm over Ibiza

In just 20 minutes of heavy rain the streets of Ses Païsses neighborhood, in Sant Antoni, have become rivers in the early afternoon of Wednesday and the street in front of the Civil Guard barracks, once again, in a lagoon. The situation has been repeated in different parts of the island while the yellow alert was in force that had put the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), until 20 hours. At around 4 p.m. a waterfall was coming down from Sant Rafel towards Vila along the highway and the first beltway was already flooded.

Some streets of Santa Eulària and the main avenue of Platja d’en Bossa have also been flooded, where the sewers have jumped and the smell of sewage spread throughout the neighborhood.

Ibiza and Formentera entered at 10.42 amber alert for risk of heavy rains accompanied by storm, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and episodes of heavy rains were repeated throughout the afternoon.

The situation has been very similar to the previous day. On Tuesday there was also heavy rain in different parts of the island, such as ses Païsses, where some streets were also flooded. In Sant Antoni the rain left 37.2 liters per square meter in one hour and 13.2 liters more in 10 minutes.

On the other hand, the airport of Palma has lived this Wednesday the hangover of the strong storm of Tuesday, with flights that were rescheduled for Thursday. It should be recalled that up to a hundred operations were canceled or diverted, including several with Ibiza.

AENA indicated that the airport is now operating normally, after all operations had to be interrupted for two hours on Tuesday due to heavy rains and flooding on the runways. This stoppage meant that a hundred flights had to be diverted or cancelled
