The Sant Josep Town Council has closed the es Pinet beach in Sant Josep to bathing due to exceeding the permitted values of faecal matter in the bathing water quality indicators, specifically E. coli and intestinal Enterococcus bacteria, according to a press release from the Consistory.
“This decision has been taken as a temporary solution and the Department of Environment is investigating the causes of contamination” by fecal and where the discharge comes from, says the Consistory, which recalls that makes water quality tests every week, “complementing those made by Health”.
Sant Josep has indicated to users that the beach is closed to bathing with a red flag. “Within 48 hours the data of the second sample will be known, but for the moment the beach is closed to bathing,” the note concludes.
A few days ago the Sant Antoni Town Hall also had to prohibit bathing in Cala Gració y Gracioneta Cove, also due to fecal contamination.
