Astronomy enthusiasts of all ages will be able to learn more about space and its mysteries at the Formentera Astronómica meeting, which will be held on the island between the 11th and 13th of June and whose programme includes night-time observation sessions guided by experts, intergalactic journeys thanks to virtual reality, activities and crafts for the whole family and a themed dinner with views of the stars.
The event is organised by the Consell de Formentera, sponsored by the Aetib and the Conselleria de Turisme del Govern and directed by Pidelaluna Events. Reservations for places and registration combos with accommodation can now be made at www.formenteraastronomica.com.
Renowned speakers at Formentera Astronómica include Imma Aguilar Nàcher, director general of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology; Carlos Briones, researcher at the CSIC; Luisella Giulicchi, from the European Space Agency and president of Women in Aerospace; Miguel Ángel Molina, aeronautical engineer and general director of GMV Space; Manuel González García, astronomer and popularizer of the Astrophysics Institute of Andalusia; Jordi Alemany, architect and member of the Astronomical Association of Formentera; Guillermo de Haro, writer, teacher and entrepreneur; Adrián García Candel, science popularizer in ‘El físico barbudo’, and Matheus Jriginsky, researcher at the University of the Balearic Islands.
The speakers will share their experience in an informative and close way in an event “aimed at inspiring and guiding the youngest and to satisfy the curiosity of all those interested in discovering if there is extraterrestrial life, what is space junk or the reality and lies of science fiction movies,” report the organizers.
Low pollution
“The low light pollution is another attraction to discover the sea of stars of Formentera and be surprised by a host of experiences related to the stars, because holidays on the beach are not incompatible with learning something new in an original and entertaining way for the whole family,” the organizers said yesterday through a note.
