Canada falls to Croatia and along with Qatar, becomes the second team to bow out of the World Cup | Germany breathes a sigh of relief as Spain takes a draw

The 8th matchday of the World Cup in Qatar was decisive for the teams in groups E and F, including Canada who said goodbye to the competition after losing to Croatia.

The matchday kicked off with two teams from the Spanish national team’s group facing each other: Costa Rica and Japan. An 80th minute goal by Keysher Fuller gave the ‘Ticos victory over Japan at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. For their part, Morocco took a big step forward to overcome the powerful Belgium. A goal by Abdelhamid Sabiri in the 73rd minute, from a direct free kick after a mistake by Thibaut Courtois, and Zakaria Aboukhlal’s penalty in the second minute of extra time, gave Morocco the victory (0-2) in the second Group F match.

Another team with a smile on their faces on Sunday was Croatia, who claimed their first World Cup victory with a comeback win over Canada (4-1), who are out of the running for Qatar 2022, while the Balkan team, runners-up at the World Cup, are closing in on a place in the Round of 16. Finally, it was Spain’s turn. A goal by Niclas Füllkrug in the 83rd minute equalized that of Álvaro Morata in the 62nd minute and earned Spain a draw with Germany in their match at the Al Bayt stadium in the town of Al Khor.
