The island of Ibiza will enter world triathlon history in 2023 along with Spain when Spain becomes the first country to host the three major international level events of this Olympic discipline.

Our country is going to achieve a milestone next year that no other country has achieved so far. After more than 30 years of national and international triathlon competitions, for the first time a country will organize in the same calendar year this sport’s three main world events.

Triathlon epicenter

In 2023, Spain will become the world triathlon epicenter by hosting the Multisport World Championships 2023 on Ibiza, the European Championships in Madrid and, as a finishing touch, the Grand Final of the World Series in Pontevedra.

“In 2023, Spain will achieve a milestone not achieved so far by any country,” said José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation last week, a regular visitor and lover of the island, where the first of three major events that will put Ibiza in the international triathlon spotlight, and considered the most complete of the Olympic roster, will take place.

“All the major 2023 events in World Triathlon will pass through Spain, being the example in which other countries will focus on ,” Hidalgo added after confirming this historic sporting news. It is a milestone that no other nation or national triathlon federation has ever achieved in the more than 30 years of history of national and international competitions in a speciality that combines swimming, cycling and running.

In addition, Hidalgo stressed that as a country and federation they will offer athletes “the best conditions and venues” as well as “the support of the Spanish fans in this crucial year for the Olympic Games qualification”. In addition the FETRI president also guaranteed that they will offer age groups and all multisport athletes of all backgrounds, categories and levels, “the possibility to compete in the country at the highest level”.
