The rise of covid infections brings Ibiza to level 3 and requires the use of a vaccination passport

The Govern understands that the rise of covid cases does not correspond to an increase in "health pressure."

Life is complicated and quiet for individuals who do not have the covid passport from now on. Since yesterday, you must show this document to enter not only cafes and restaurants with seating for more than 50 people, but also cinemas, theaters, auditoriums, swimming pools, spas, circuses, gyms, sports facilities, clubs for the elderly, theatres, auditoriums, concert halls, and gambling and gaming venues. Furthermore, regardless of capacity, the covid pass will be required to enter any bar, restaurant, or cafeteria. It doesn’t matter if it’s for five or seventy people. In theory, entry will be denied if the covid certificate is not provided.

This was announced yesterday in Ibiza by the Balearic Minister of Mobility and Housing, Josep Mar Ribas, and the first vice president of the Consell de Ibiza, Mariano Juan, who stressed that the extension of the requirement for the covid passport is a result of the island’s entry into the level 3 health risk. Both Mar and Juan indicated that the island, which was previously at level 1, had been elevated to this level of alert due to a “significant rise” in the incidence.

Both stated unequivocally that the rise in infections does not currently correspond to “hospital pressure.” “We are in the midst of a complex pandemic. The issue is the prevalence of covid, not its health.” According to the chancellor, while the number of infections per hundred thousand residents to two weeks was not high enough yesterday morning to go to level three, the indication a week did make it advisable. “The incidence at one week reaches 50% of that recorded at two weeks, indicating that it will continue to increase,” said Mar Ribas, who described the coronavirus’s presence in Ibiza as “vertical.”

In this regard, the councilor reminded that on December 1, 191 infections per hundred thousand inhabitants were recorded at two weeks, a figure that had already reached 272 on the 10th and 609 on the 20th. Yesterday, the island recorded a fourteen-day incidence of 749.5 instances and a seven-day incidence of 449.9 cases, indicating an upward trend. The situation is especially problematic in the municipality of Ibiza, which has already reached a thousand contagions in less than two weeks. 60%of the infections were reported in the last seven days.
