Salvamento Marรญtimo (Maritime Rescue) and the Guardia Civil discovered a body yesterday, which could well be that of one of the three people who disappeared last Monday after jumping into the water from a skiff that was taking them to the coast of Cabrera. The Government Delegation confirmed the discovery of this body, but would not confirm whether it is one of the missing, because it had not yet been identified, nor were the causes of death known. The only information provided was that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition.
The body was found in the waters near Cabrera, a position that coincides with the area where the disappearance occurred. Three of the migrants who were travelling on the skiff jumped into the sea from the boat, in a desperate attempt to reach the coast as soon as possible. However, they failed to reach their goal and disappeared into the sea, making rescue impossible. Five other crew members who had made the same decision to jump into the water were much luckier, because they were rescued. The other nine crew members of the boat were more cautious and decided to stay on board, which made their quick rescue possible.
