Ibiza Airport handled 8,041,125 passengers between January and September 2026, surpassing the eight-million mark for the first time over the first nine months of a year. The figure represents a 3% increase compared with the same period in 2025, according to data released by Spanish airport operator Aena.
The rise extends the growth recorded throughout the current season, as plans to expand the airport terminal have prompted significant public opposition over concerns about the impact of further tourist arrivals. Aena is a publicly traded company, with 49% of its share capital held by private investors since the partial privatisation carried out in 2015 under the government of Mariano Rajoy.
This is not the first passenger record set by Ibiza Airport this year. Between January and July, the airport had already handled more than 5.2 million travellers. Specifically, 5,258,962 passengers passed through the terminal during those seven months, a 3.1% increase on the same period in 2025, according to figures published by Aena in August.
The airport operator’s latest year-to-date figures also show an increase in flight activity. Between January and September 2026, Ibiza Airport recorded 73,543 aircraft movements, including take-offs and landings, up 3% year on year.
Ibiza Airport handled 1.26 million passengers in September
Ibiza Airport recorded 1,262,962 passengers in September, a 2.9% increase compared with the same month in 2025.
Of these, 1,260,801 travelled on commercial flights, representing a 3% year-on-year increase.
The figures show that passenger demand remained strong towards the end of the main summer season, even as the number of aircraft movements fell slightly during the month.
Domestic passenger traffic grows fastest
Domestic routes recorded the strongest growth in September, a particularly important development as the Balearic Islands move into the quieter months of the tourist calendar.
A total of 423,657 passengers travelled between Ibiza and destinations elsewhere in Spain, an increase of 5.9% compared with September 2025.
International connections accounted for the larger share of passenger traffic, with 837,144 travellers, up 1.5% year on year.
The UK remains Ibiza’s leading international market
The United Kingdom continued to be Ibiza Airport’s largest international market in September, with 312,016 passengers travelling on routes linking the island with the country.
Italy ranked second, with 146,031 passengers, followed by Germany with 103,349 and the Netherlands with 88,418.
The figures underline the importance of the British market to Ibiza’s international air links, alongside the island’s established connections with other major European countries.
Aircraft movements dip slightly despite passenger growth
Despite the rise in passenger numbers, aircraft movements at Ibiza Airport fell marginally in September.
Aena recorded 10,487 take-offs and landings during the month, 0.2% fewer than in September 2025.
The combination of higher passenger numbers and slightly fewer aircraft movements may indicate the use of larger aircraft or higher average seat occupancy. However, the passenger and movement figures alone do not establish which factor accounts for the difference.
The latest figures therefore point to continued growth in passenger traffic at Ibiza Airport, with domestic routes expanding particularly quickly in September and the UK retaining its position as the island’s leading international market.
