The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) warns of a progressive rise in temperatures in the coming days, culminating on Saturday with highs that could locally exceed 34 or 35 degrees and minimums that may exceed 18 degrees on the islands.

It is about “extraordinarily high values for the time of year we are in.”aemet points out. However, on Sunday they will begin to fall.

This increase in temperature is due to the entry of a mass of very warm and dry air, of North African origin, over the Balearic Islands.

The presence of this warm mass, together with the conditions of atmospheric stability and the strong insolation, are causing an increase in temperatures, which will continue in the coming days, reaching values typical of summer, highlights the Aemet.

It is very likely that on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 there will be “a high point” of this episode of heat, notes from the State Meteorological Agency, and that on Friday the maximum temperatures will continue to rise in the Balearic Islands, although the most extreme temperatures will be in the interior of Mallorca, where it will be possible to reach up to 32 degrees.

“High” minimums

On the other hand, minimum temperatures will also be “abnormally high”.

The Aemet foresees from Saturday onwards a notable thermal decrease due to the entrance of a more humid and cooler air mass from the west of the peninsula, although temperatures could still continue to rise on the islands.

Finally, on Sunday 30 there will be a thermal decrease that will put an end to this episode of “exceptionally high temperatures for the time of year.” aemet concludes.
