The first year of the Serielizados Fest Santa Eulària des Riu starts on May 27 with the preview of ‘Locomía’, a Movistar production that tells the story of the legendary band born on Ibiza and portrays Spain during the 80s and 90s. The event will begin at 9pm at the Teatro España with the screening of the first episode of this documentary series, which the platform will premiere on June 22nd. Attending the event will be Xavier Font, founder of the group, and the director of this docuseries, Jorge Laplace, who will participate in a discussion moderated by journalist Alberto Rey, along with one of the producers, Pablo Aguinaga, and the head of Factual and Non-Fiction at Movistar, Marijo Larrañaga. It was exclusively announced today by Betu Martínez, the co-director of this series festival that is based in Barcelona, where it was born in 2014, and in Madrid, since 2019.
All the original members appear in ‘Locomía’, the group that revolutionized the 90s music scene in Spain with their massive fan base. “Locomía was a band ahead of its time that was born, grew up and became famous on Ibiza and that’s why we believe that the documentary is perfect content for the opening, because it connects the festival’s programming with the island,” Martínez stressed.
The Movistar docuseries is one of the highlights of the Serielizados Fest, sponsored and co-organized by the City Council of Santa Eulària.
To attract the public’s attention in its first year, Serielizados Fest has opted for the mainstream and series that have triumphed and have marked the Spanish fiction in recent years. Such is the case of ‘Merlí’, a production that first aired on the Catalan channel TV3 and reached worldwide success on Netflix.
Carlos Cuevas unable to attend Serielizados Fest
Carlos Cuevas was previously confirmed to attend the Serielizados Fest, one of the protagonists of ‘Merlí’ and its sequel, ‘Merlí: Sapere Aude’, but yesterday Betu Martínez explained that, “for work reasons”, the popular Catalan actor will not be able to be in Santa Eulària. In his place, other successful members of the cast of ‘Merlí’, David Solans and Albert Baró, who has become one of the biggest stars in the Netflix series ‘Welcome to Eden’, will attend. The actors will participate in the session ‘Postperipatéticos’, which will take place on May 28th at 12 noon at the Centro Cultural de Jesús. Baró and Solans will explain, among other things, what has become of them after the success of ‘Merlí’ in a talk with cultural journalist Alba Riera and actor Iñaki Mur.
Betting on the ‘podcast’
As Betu Martínez pointed out, in this first year, Serielizados Fest Santa Eulària has also wanted to devote a space to another format, which like series, is “in its golden age”, the podcast. On May 28th, “before the Champions League final is played”, a live broadcast has been scheduled from the Teatro España of ‘La Ruina’, one of the most popular comedy podcasts in Spain, presented by comedians Tomàs Fuentes and Ignasi Taltavull. The show starts at 6:30pm and feature special guest Darko Peric, internationally famous thanks to his role as Helsinki in ‘La Casa de Papel’.
