The citizens’ protest that took place yesterday in Vila is one of them, despite the fact that the rally barely brought together some twenty people. “We are few, but noisy”, commented the theater director and playwright Maruxa Martos with good humor, who was just one of the people who gathered at noon next to the Christmas tree in Vara de Rey to make it clear that “eating should not be a luxury”

Wages are not going up and it costs more and more to feed ourselves,” Verónica Gavilán, who was the person that started “this particular citizen protest which was called together through social networks“, pointed out. “The initial idea was to create a demonstration that would leave the Cetis and reach Vara de Rey, but as there are only a few of us, we have opted for a concentrated protest,” she explained

Protest over rising prices

The protesters, who had left at eleven in the morning from the Vila bus station carrying a large banner that read ‘Lower prices’ and posters with slogans such as ‘We fear the supermarket’, ‘It’s not war, nor inflation, it’s abuse!’ or ‘We want decent wages, not handouts’, gathered on the promenade.
