The long history of the Ibiza yoga centre that rented illegally teepees, 3 hammocks and a vintage bus

Two teepees, a vintage bus, an unknown number of tents, a hut, a hammock, eight rooms, a warehouse and a barn — these were the 16 types of accommodation that the Ibiza Yoga Centre offered through Airbnb in 2019. After years of non-compliance, the centre has now begun dismantling the huts and other structures that were built illegally on the property. The centre is located on a rural plot in Sant Joan, in the Benirràs area, and for years has offered both tourist accommodation and yoga retreats.

The buildings that are now being dismantled were located within a Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI). The Sant Joan Town Council had previously issued a demolition order, which expired in September last year. That same month, the centre was sealed off for operating illegally as a tourist establishment and for offering yoga classes without an activity licence. However, these cabins were first reported back in 2013.
