Hoteliers of Sant Antoni: “We are seeing things we didn’t want to see again”

They ask the City Council for more public order and by-laws that guarantee civility in Sant Antoni

“Last year we saw in Sant Antoni a change of tourist model and this is something we are proud of. However, now we have returned to normality and we are again seeing certain things that we did not want to see again“. Yesterday, the president of the association of hoteliers of Sant Antoni and Bahia, Ana Gordillo, was clear in conveying this idea shared by the associates: Sant Antoni must consolidate its model of tourism change and cannot afford a single step backwards.

A message aimed at many recipients, one of them undoubtedly is the City Council, to which Gordillo requested “more public order and more municipal ordinances to ensure civility” so the town can leave behind the tourist model that has characterized it in recent decades.

Leisure with control

Gordillo never used the expression ‘tourism of excesses’, but she did reaffirm the need for a transformation to which, she assured, the local hoteliers are fully committed, and for which they ask for the involvement of public administrations and nightlife: “All tourist destinations have nightlife. Sant Antoni must have nightlife, but this nightlife must be controlled“.

A transformation of Sant Antoni that, according to the hoteliers’ spokeswoman, should take  the summer of 2021

A transformation of Sant Antoni that, according to the hoteliers’ spokeswoman, should use the summer of 2021 as a model, when, with nightlife at a minimum, it experienced an atypical season from which they drew very positive conclusions: “We saw a change in the tourism model and it is something we are proud of. Both the customer profile we had in our hotels and the one we saw walking around the town filled us with satisfaction, and this is the line we want to follow and maintain”.

“It is clear that this year we are seeing things that we did not want to see again and that remind us of what we had before the pandemic, but I think that we are on the right path, that we have set clear guidelines and that change is possible,” argued Gordillo, who assured that they are optimistic: “If we were not, we would not be spending the money we spent on refurbishing our hotels to increase their category. We are the first to believe in Sant Antoni,” she said.
