A group of tourists encounters a 40-kilogram jellyfish in Ibiza and swims with it

The group decided to go for a swim to take pictures during a paddle surfing excursion in Ibiza.

A group of tourists had an unforgettable experience during a paddle surfing trip organised by the company Sup Ibiza. What started as a routine trip in the north of the island turned into a close encounter with marine nature when the participants encountered a giant jellyfish weighing around 40kg.

The jellyfish, which according to experts belongs to the species Rhizostoma pulmosurprised both the tourists and the Sup Ibiza instructors. Despite its imposing size and intimidating appearance, the group decided to go into the water to have a closer encounter with the invertebrate. “It was a mind-blowing experience. At first we were shocked by the size of the jellyfish, but then we realized that it was a unique opportunity to interact with such a creature. We see many jellyfish every season, but this is the first time we have seen such a large one away from a school of jellyfish of its species,” says Germán García, head of the company.

The instructors of Sup Ibiza took measures to ensure the safety of tourists while in the presence of the jellyfish. They provided information about the species and precautions to take when interacting with it. Although the jellyfish is known for its stinging sting, no incidents were recorded.

The encounter with jellyfish of this size has become a topic of conversation all over the island, attracting the attention of residents and visitors alike. The Sup Ibiza company has stated that such encounters with nature are an exciting and enriching part of the excursions they organize. They have also stressed the importance of respecting and protecting the marine ecosystem and wildlife.
