Yesterday, Iago Negueruela, the spokesperson for the Government, announced that the Executive is diligently working towards finding an urgent solution for the residents of Don Pepe apartments. These apartments, situated in es Codolar, were evacuated several months ago due to structural issues. The government is currently focusing on providing residents with new housing options and facilitating a smooth transition process.
During the press conference after the Consell de Govern, Negueruela was asked questions by the media. In response, he emphasized that the government is actively holding all necessary meetings to resolve the situation for residents of Don Pepe apartments. He also mentioned that the valuation of the current property and the project of the new ones are in their final stages, which are essential steps for the proceedings to continue smoothly.ย
The Councilor for Economic Model, Tourism and Labor, has reminded the public that in October, the location for the new housing was chosen, and in December, the urban qualification was granted to begin the work of streamlining the necessary procedures for providing services.
Negueruela has assured that the approval of the provisional rules of Sant Josep by the Consell de Ibiza is pending, which is causing delays.
However, the Executive spokesperson has acknowledged that they currently lack information regarding whether the residents will have to pay for the permutation process.
A legal problem
The President of the Balearic Islands PP and candidate for the position of Government President, Marga Prohens, also commented yesterday on the situation of the residents of Don Pepe in a statement to the media in Palma. She expressed concern that the government may be deceiving the affected families and avoiding finding a solution to the underlying legal problem they are trying to conceal.
“We fear that the Govern is intentionally delaying the resolution of the legal problem related to Don Pepe, so that it becomes a problem for the next government,” accused Prohens. She demanded transparency from President Armengol, the councilor of Mobility and Housing, as well as Ibizan Josep Marรญ Ribas, Agustinet, the former mayor of Sant Josep.
The PP of Sant Josep
Meanwhile, the PP of Sant Josep has accused the current mayor, Angel Luis Guerrero, of concealing the truth from the residents of Don Pepe. They allege that the situation is being shrouded in secrecy, and blame former mayor and Balearic Minister of Housing, Josep Marรญ Agustinet, as well as the current mayor, for failing to clarify the costs involved in the residents’ relocation to new homes. Despite pressure from the affected residents, opposition groups, and media, the truth has yet to be revealed, the PP claimed.
The members of the PP have emphasized that “it is evident that the promised VPOs are nothing but a dangerous trap, the true nature of which will only be revealed after the upcoming May elections.”
