At least 10 arrested in macro operation against drug trafficking on Ibiza

The Guardia Civil searches homes and businesses for drugs in several municipalities on the island

Numerous searches in houses and businesses took place on Tuesday in a new anti-drug operation by the Guardia Civil throughout the island of Ibiza that left a balance of at least ten detainees, reported the police. In the morning, several agents entered a single-family house in Santa Gertrudis and shortly later, they took a handcuffed man with his face covered and put him inside a police vehicle.

Apparently, another of the inspections took place in a private day care center in Sant Josep, according to the information available to Diario de Ibiza. The main areas of the police investigations are located in the municipalities of Vila, Santa Eulària and Sant Josep. An extensive operation that culminated in the dismantling of a gang that, in addition to trafficking drugs, laundered money (a criminal activity that often goes hand in hand with the illicit drug trade).

The members of the criminal organization are individuals from European countries, specified the Office of Peripheral Communication (OPC) of the Guardia Civil, which, however, failed to specify the origin of those arrested in the framework of the macro-operation. On the case there is a secrecy of proceedings that, for the moment, prevents public knowledge of the details of the operation, in spite of the magnitude that the number of detainees and the extension of the police deployment show.

The Guardia Civil expected to take possession of a cache of multiple narcotic substances during the operation. In addition, during the inspections carried out in the operational phase of the police operation, the agents also intervened in spaces that functioned as points of sale of drugs.

Third anti-drug operation in just three weeks

The images and scenes left by these macro-operations have been repeated recently on the island of Ibiza. Just two weeks ago, operation ‘Via Fora’ culminated on the island which, in addition to an exorbitant amount of money seized – 439,000 euros in cash and tens of thousands of dollars and pounds sterling -, involved the largest seizure in Spain of the drug known as pink cocaine, with 13.25 kilos of this narcotic.

All the substances seized in this operation would have reached a price of 2.3 million Euros on the black market. Less than a week before, several searches had taken place in Eivissa for the Unagui operation, which dismantled a gang operating between Ibiza and Madrid.
