The weather in the Balearic Islands will remain stable for most of this week, with some clouds and temperatures higher than usual for this time of year until Thursday, when the arrival of a cold front will bring a drop in temperatures and rain with thunderstorms in Ibiza and Formentera. This was explained by Miquel Gili, spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in the Balearic Islands.
The week began with slightly lower temperatures than on Sunday, although still above average for early November, with highs ranging between 20 and 23°C. Winds will blow lightly to moderately from the north.
On Tuesday, skies will remain mostly clear, with light southerly winds that could strengthen slightly in the afternoon. Temperatures will range between 9 and 15°C at night and 20 to 24°C during the day.
This fair weather, with mostly clear skies, will continue on Wednesday, when temperatures could rise by one or two degrees. Winds will remain light, coming from the south or southeast.
Change in weather
The weather will change on Thursday with the arrival of a cold front, which will first affect the Pitiusas Islands, bringing cloudy skies and a chance of showers with thunderstorms. According to Gili, rainfall is expected to be moderate, with totals of no more than 30 to 40 litres per square metre.
Winds will also shift on Thursday afternoon, becoming moderate to occasionally strong in Ibiza and Formentera, as well as in the south of Mallorca. Night-time temperatures will fall to between 10 and 15°C, while daytime highs will not exceed 22°C.
The cold front will move through quickly, although instability will persist on Friday in Menorca and northern Mallorca, with occasional early showers. In the Pitiusas, skies will remain cloudy with the possibility of isolated rainfall.
The change in wind direction — turning to the north and northeast — will cause a further drop in temperatures, with minimums between 8 and 15°C and maximums between 18 and 22°C.
With the passage of the cold front over the islands, Gili explained, temperatures are expected to return to normal levels for this time of year.
