Five months have passed since part of the wall of the promenade of Platja d’en Bossa sank into the sand on the beach. And this is how the first tourists of the 2022 season have found it, sunken and fenced off to avoid any accidents. Over the weekend, dozens of them have come across the sightly scene on their strolls by the sea.
In mid-November, the neighbors warned that part of the pavement had collapsed, something that some already feared would happen, since hours earlier one of the wooden slats of the railing had come loose and several weeks earlier the last two steps of the stairs had collapsed, in the section located at street level of calle D’en Bossa, linking the promenade with the sand.
Initially, following a complaint from neighbours, the Policía Local put up fences and tape to warn of the danger. Two and a half months later, given the risk posed by the sinkholes, the area was fenced off more permanently, with metal fences embedded in the surface of the promenade and lights to mark the area at night.
Repairs after Easter for the 2022 Season
The Ibiza Town Hall assured yesterday that the repairs will begin shortly. In fact, work is expected to begin in ten days, that is, once Semana Santa is over. The Consistory recalled that the Platja d’en Bossa promenade is located in an area belonging to the Coastal Demarcation, which is why it has not been able to take charge of the work until the latter has given permission. “Permission was requested so that it could be carried out urgently,” they said, before explaining that while awaiting the response from Costas, the project was drawn up and a quote was requested “from three companies”.
The work, budgeted at just under 50,000 euros (a total of 47,204.54), has finally been awarded to the company Hermanos Parot. “It will begin as soon as the administrative processing is finished, which is being finalized at the moment,” the City Council indicated. Just yesterday morning “the health and safety plan” was signed, continued a spokeswoman for the Consistory.
The City Council detailed that, although the affected area measures about 16 meters, the reinstatement plans to repair a stretch of just over 29 meters of the promenade. This will be carried out in four parts: “First, the damaged section will be dismantled and demolished and the wooden railing will be removed”. Then, a new wall will be erected “of reinforced concrete with drainage to later install the existing stone cladding, with the aim of maintaining continuity with the image of the existing wall”. Once these works are finished, the raised section will be waterproofed “and the work will end with the replacement of the pavement at the promenade level, as well as the railing and other elements that had to be removed due to the execution of the work”. In principle, according to the project, the deadline for the execution of the work is one month. That is to say, if the forecast is met, the promenade could be reopened by the end of May for the 2022 season.
