Representatives from 28 citizens’ associations from Formentera voted yesterday in the Consell d’Entitats on the deadline and fee to regulate the entry of vehicles, known as Formentera.eco, for 2023. By an overwhelming majority 24 collectives voted to extend the regulation between June 1st and September 30th, while four votes were for the option to keep it from mid-June to mid-September, like this year.

The result was closer regarding the application of the rate, with 12 collectives voting for “doubling the rate between July 15th and August 31st”, when there is more traffic, while 16 votes were for “doubling it during the whole period of enforcement”

This means that visitors who are not residents of the Balearics (residents are exempt but must make a reservation) and those who want to travel with their vehicle on those dates must pay a fee per day of 6 euros and a minimum of 30 euros, which is five days. Motorcycles follow the same conditions but with a fee of 3 euros per day and a minimum of 15 euros. This increase is justified in an attempt to reduce the number of one-day stays, taking into account that since the rate has been increased, the average stay has gone from 3.5 days in 2021 to 5.4 days in 2022

This second session of the Consell d’Entitats was chaired by Ana Juan, with the presence of the Councilor for Participation, Vanessa Parellada, and the Councilor for Mobility, Rafael González. He explained that “the decisions taken respond to the fact that it is observed that in June and September we are increasingly seeing more vehicles, so if we regulate these months we will be able to contain these increases”.
