Impressive video of a ‘cap de fibló’ on the coast of Formentera

This morning a large cap de fibló formed between Cala Saona and Cap de Barbaria.

Impressive images have been recorded this morning on Formentera in which a ‘cap de fibló’ or waterspout was observed on the coast between Cala Saona and Cap de Barbaria.

The video shows how the sea water is rising through the vortex or whirlpool of this kind of tornado that, without exactly being a tornado, can become a problem for boats that are very close to it.

What is a cap de fibló?

A ‘cap de fibló’ is an updraft that forms on the surface of the water and is usually associated with large cumuliform clouds, which are clouds that develop more vertically.

The marine whirlwinds are a common phenomenon in the Balearic Islands that, in addition to being formed by vertical clouds, inside it generates a column of warm, moist air that rises in the form of a rotating spiral and can carry sea water.
