Las Dalias hippy market, this summer in the port of Ibiza

"Las Dalias will be a few days with many surprises including gastronomy, crafts and, as always, a lot of music," says Juan Marí, its owner.

The Ibizan businessman, Juan Marí, or as everybody knows him, Juanito de Las Dalias, announced in an interview with “Unas hierbas con…” in Ebusus Cultural Society, that the flea Las Dalias market will this year also be in the port of Ibiza. It will be in September and, as Marí explained, “will be a few days with many surprises including gastronomy, crafts and, as always, lots of music”.

After this announcement, the owner of Las Dalias reviewed the history of the most famous hippy market on the island, founded by his father in 1945. In the 50’s, Las Dalias “was a café and a dance floor, and the place where almost all the weddings on the island took place”. During the 70s it began to transform into a multicultural place. In the 80’s, in the middle of the Movida Madrileña, groups such as Rebeldes, Obús, Pancel or Rosendo performed there.

It was in 1985 when “the flea market” as it is known today was formally opened. Currently, Marí explained, there are more than 400 artisan stalls “who maintain its hippy essence”.

For the future, the idea is to take the flea market to other locations outside the island, as has already been done successfully in Madrid and Amsterdam.
