A young tourist was seriously injured on Monday following a fight at La Savina port in Formentera, shortly after 2 p.m.
According to eyewitnesses, two young tourists, reportedly possibly Italian although this has not been officially confirmed, became involved in a fight for reasons that remain unknown. At one point, one of the men pushed the other, causing him to fall to the ground and suffer a severe blow to the head.
The injured man was left lying on the ground with a serious head injury, and his life was initially feared to be at risk.
The Formentera Island Council later reported that Local Police received an emergency call at around 2:15 p.m. reporting a cardiac arrest at La Savina port. A police patrol immediately went to the scene. After finding the young man in cardiac arrest, officers began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Medical staff from SAMU 061 subsequently joined the emergency response and continued resuscitation efforts until the victim’s pulse was restored.
After being stabilized, the young man was evacuated from Formentera and transferred to the Neurology Unit at Clínica Vilas in Ibiza, where he remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Suspected Attacker Arrested by Formentera Local Police
Initial information indicates that the cardiac arrest occurred after the alleged assault. However, investigators will have to establish the exact circumstances of the incident, including the connection between the head injury sustained in the fall and the subsequent deterioration in the victim’s condition.
While the injured tourist was receiving medical attention, a second Formentera Local Police patrol heading to the port to provide assistance located the alleged attacker nearby. According to the official account provided by the Island Council, several members of the public had helped restrain the suspect.
Police subsequently arrested the man on suspicion of attempted homicide and took him to police headquarters. He was later handed over to the Guardia Civil, which has taken charge of the investigation and is continuing inquiries to determine exactly what happened during the fight and establish any potential criminal liability.
