It has been more than a month since the first DANA swept through Es Pratet like a roller, and the difficult situation many local merchants continue to face remains far from resolved.
A quick look at the Náutica Ereso warehouses—one of the businesses located opposite the port of Ibiza, right on the front line of the floods—is enough to understand that the consequences of those historic rains are still being felt and will continue to be for some time.
“We’re still afraid. We’ve never looked at the sky so much”, says Joan Costa, one of the four brothers who run this family business, speaking to Diario de Ibiza. “Nor have we seen any direct action during this month”.
He steps outside his shop to show that the drainage ditch beside the premises “is still full of dirt” and warns that “if it rains again, it will get blocked”. He thanked the Councillor for Cleaning, Jordi Grivé, who “brought in the excavator” to clear more space for rainwater to flow into the sea, but laments that the work “has stopped”.
“It’s November, we’re still wearing short sleeves, the sea is very warm, and another DANA could easily come. The businesses here are still on alert. I check the weather forecast now more than I did when I was sailing”, he says beside his shop, where cleaning work continues after 22 days of forced closure due to the damage.
