Ibiza apartment where man tried to jump: years of complaints over illegal rentals, drugs and prostitution

The incident that took place on Friday morning in an apartment in Platja d’en Bossa did not come as a surprise to the residents of the housing complex. They had seen it coming long ago. When police intervened to prevent a man — reportedly “under the influence of drugs”, as neighbours stressed — from falling from the balcony of a fourth-floor apartment, no one was shocked. Residents say they have been reporting problems, disturbances and crimes for years, ever since the tenant first moved in.

According to a spokeswoman for the residents, the man who holds the rental contract, in the municipality of Ibiza, is Italian. “He has done everything that shouldn’t be done”, she said, listing drug dealing, prostitution, building a small shack on the rooftop and subletting. Neighbours claim the flat has been operating as an illegal tourist rental, something they have repeatedly reported to the Consell of Ibiza. They believe a fine for this activity “is about to arrive”.
