The start of the two races will take place next Saturday at 4.30pm from La Mola and Sant Ferran in Formentera

The twelfth edition of the Illa de Formentera Half Marathon and the IX Sant Ferran – La Savina 8km, to be held this Saturday, will bring together nearly three thousand athletes of different nationalities, making this event the largest on the island’s sporting calendar.

The start of the two races will take place at 4.30pm, the Half Marathon, as usual, from the lighthouse of La Mola, and the 8km race from Sant Ferran. There are 1,750 athletes signed up for the 21km race and 1,150 for the 8km.

The president of the Consell de Formentera, Alejandra Ferrer, and the Consellera for Sports, Paula Ferrer, launched a competition that has become a fixture on the island’s athletics calendar and a benchmark for a great many athletes from all over the island.

The launch was also attended by the manager of the Agency for Tourism Strategy of the Balearic Islands (AETIB), Xisco Mateu; the director of Unisport Consulting, Manuel Hernandez, race organiser; Trasmapi’s commercial director, Alex Marí, and the director of the Business Area of Caixabank in the Pitiusas, Carles Verde, the main race sponsors.

Alejandra Ferrer highlighted “the attractiveness of this competition, which is back after being suspended last year due to the pandemic, and that takes in practically the entire island”. In addition, the president noted that the race “is an ideal opportunity for participants and companions to enjoy Formentera in October, its nature, beaches and culinary delights”.
