After the last day, Ibiza and Formentera had a total of 54 covid patients hospitalised. According to the pandemic’s historical records, this is the highest level since last August 31. This figure was achieved after five patients infected with the covidย virus were admitted to the hospital on Sunday due to a deterioration in their condition.
On the ward, there are currently 46 infected patients (four more than on Saturday) and eight in critical care units (one more). A higher number of covid patients in the ICU hasn’t been seen since September 10. Seven of the eight seriously ill patients are being treated in Ibiza health centers, with one being treated at the Son Espases reference hospital in Mallorca, where he was transported a month ago. Six were in Ibiza and two in Mallorca at the start of September.
The number of people hospitalized in general and in intensive care units is now comparable to what was observed at the end of October 2020, before the lethal third wave. However, the overall number of active cases at the time was less than 600, significantly lower than the current figure of 7,818, the highest number of persons impacted by the virus since the epidemic began. Those hospitalized owing to covid accounted for 10.5% of all covid infections at the period, when vaccinations had not yet been provided. Currently, with over 90% of the population vaccinated, those hospitalized account for only 0.7% of the population.
The number of active covid infections rose by 3.4% yesterday compared to Saturday and by 77.1% since last Sunday, when Health reported 4,415 confirmed cases
This amount was achieved following a day in which private laboratories and the Hospital Can Misses‘ Microbiology Laboratory found a total of 360 positives: 340 in Ibiza and 20 in Formentera. This is the lowest number of new cases found in the recent week, yet it should be noted that because it is a weekend, less tests may have been completed. In the previous week, Health recorded a total of 3,684 infections in the Pitiusas (3,513 in Ibiza and 171 in Formentera), the largest number of weekly positives since the pandemic began. Between January 3 and 9, 2,766 cases were discovered in the preceding week (2,625 in Ibiza and 141 in Formentera). That is, the number of verified positives has climbed by 33.2% in the last week (33.8%ย in Ibiza and 21.3%ย in Formentera).
The vast majority of people affected in the Pitiusas, 99.3 %ย remain in a mild state or even have no symptoms, allowing them to remain at home. There are a total of 7,764 in total, including 7,332 in Ibiza and 432 in Formentera.
