From the fandango of Valencia to the ‘llarga’ of Ibiza

After a year's hiatus in Ibiza, Forada returns to celebrate the elderly and the Mostra Folklòrica Arrels Vives, this year featuring the Grup de Danses i Rondalles Repicó, Manises, and Sa Colla de Buscastell

“I am very happy that we can finally get together and celebrate a little with the Forada parties. The comment is made by Pepa Costa Torres, from Can Fornet, after the mass in honour of the elderly officiated by the parish priest,  Sergio Pérez, in the chapel of the Inmaculada Concepción. Next to her there are dozens of neighbors, all with the same desire to enjoy the tribute to the veterans of the town and the Mostra Folklòrica Arrels Vives, two events that last year could not be held due to the coronavirus pandemic. Among those attending the religious ceremony are the Mayor of Sant Antoni, Marcos Serra; the Councillor for Governance and Environment, Neus Mateu; the Councillor for Culture, María Ramón, and the Councillor for Tourism and Festivals, Miguel Tur.

A small group of Sa Colla de Buscastell and the Grup de Danses i Rondalles Repicó, from Manises, who will perform next at the eleventh edition of the Forada folk festival, have just left the chapel. The rest of the members of both groups are already in the village’s social centre preparing for the performance.

The president of Sa Colla de Buscastell, Cristina Ribas, is dressing little Leire Ribas, aged four, who is one of the new additions to the group, along with her brother, Dani, who is about to turn two, in traditional Ibizan costume. “Also making their debut in this show are Keisha, aged thirteen, and Estela Gómez, aged eleven, who started rehearsing with us this summer”, explains Ribas before introducing another of the youngest members, Alba Tur, aged six, “who has been dancing since she was three”. “All of them will be on stage today to show that our roots are alive and well,” said the president shortly afterwards, during the folklore show to present the new members.
